Music is an integral part of life at St. Thomas the Apostle, where students are encouraged to discover and develop their God-given talents. Through joyful expression and meaningful performance, our program nurtures both a love for music and a deeper connection to faith.
A Joyful Beginning in Music
Our Music Program begins as early as Pre-K 3, where students are introduced to the joy of music through singing, movement, and hands-on exploration. At this early stage, children build a strong foundation by playing instruments such as egg shakers and boomwhackers, while also developing rhythm, coordination, and confidence through dance.
Expanding Through Instrumental Learning
As students grow, so does their musical experience. Beginning in third grade, students expand their skills by learning instruments such as the recorder and bells, strengthening their understanding of melody and music reading. By fifth grade, students have the opportunity to choose a specialized path in either strings or band, allowing them to further develop their talents and musical interests.
Performing with Purpose
In addition to classroom instruction, we offer choir opportunities for students of all ages. Our choirs play an important role in our school community, leading music during weekly Mass, performing in school productions, and representing our school in competitions. Our band and strings students also perform in our school shows, showcasing their growth and talent on stage. Through these experiences, students not only grow as musicians but also gain confidence, discipline, and a deeper appreciation for using their God-given talents to serve others.

MUSICAL EDUCATION
Our music program provides students with a well-rounded and enriching experience through Strings, Band, and Choir. In our Strings and Band classes, students receive structured instruction as they learn to play instruments, develop music-reading skills, and grow in technique and performance. Our Choir program allows students to further explore their musical talents through vocal training, leading music at school Masses, and participating in special performances such as caroling concerts, with our Chamber Choir representing the school in competitions. Together, these programs foster creativity, discipline, and a deep appreciation for music, while encouraging students to use their God-given talents to inspire and uplift others.
Strings
Our Strings program is a dedicated music class that offers students the opportunity to choose between violin and cello as they begin their journey in instrumental music. Through structured instruction and hands-on practice, students develop essential skills such as music reading, proper technique, and tone production. As they grow, they gain confidence, discipline, and an appreciation for the beauty of music, while also having opportunities to perform and collaborate with others in a supportive and enriching environment.
Band
Our Band program is a dedicated music class where students choose from a variety of instruments, including flute, clarinet, trumpet, alto saxophone, and snare drum. Through engaging instruction and regular practice, students learn to read music, develop proper technique, and build strong ensemble skills. As they progress, they grow in confidence, discipline, and musicality, working together to create a unified sound while preparing for performances that showcase their hard work and talent.
Choir
Our Choir program provides students with the opportunity to grow as vocalists while deepening their love for music and faith. Through regular rehearsals, students develop proper vocal technique, harmony, and performance skills in a collaborative and supportive environment. Our choirs play an important role in leading music at school Masses and sharing the joy of the season through caroling concerts. Members of our Chamber Choir also represent the school in various competitions, showcasing their dedication and musical excellence.
